I’ve been practicing my ring shots and detail photography as much as I possibly can lately (to the point that I asked 2 ladies that came over to my house this week if they would kindly remove their rings so I could photograph them) and I’ve discovered that it takes my breath away. Literally. I can’t breathe. I don’t breathe. I find myself taking a deep breath, then hold it….hold it….hold it… until I’ve got focus on that tiny object, grab the shot, finally exhaling. Like I just ran a 7 minute mile full force. Holding my breath combined with unusual positions allows me to stop the shaking in the lens that accompanies close ups, giving me me the time needed to compose and focus the shot. Yes, i know that is what a tripod is for, but since I don’t like to lug a tripod around during a wedding day or photo session I improvise. By the time I have the shot, it feels like minutes have passed and I could pass out from lack of oxygen to my brain. But it works. And I’m all about doing whatever works the best-even if it means taking a few minutes off my life to get my bride an awesome ring shot. 🙂
(I used my trusty 50mm with a macro adapter (Promaste, closeup adapter, +4) & a 100mm macro.)
