This summer my biggest accessory has become my nail polish. To say I am obsessed may be a slight understatement. It’s a pretty new accessory for me considering that although I keep my toes painted, I rarely ever painted my nails since I was a tween (clear strengthening polish was my go-to).

So a few months ago, in an attempt to shop biting my nails and because I was drooling over the new colors advertised in my favorite magazines (I mean, have you seen OPI’s Pirates of the Caribbean & Katy Perry collections? my oh my.) and the fun mix & match designs all over my Pinterest boards (my other new obsession that deserves a blog post all by its sweet self). I think it started when I used a friend’s Smitten with Mittens glittery polish and quickly went out & bought myself the closest thing I could find to the ruby red slipper… And so it began. I just might paint my nails every other day. It makes me feel a bit polished (no pun intended) and girlie and a bit reminiscent of the days where my sister & I played dress-up with Mom’s shiny black sequin skirt and I would do her makeup like a drag queen. Blue eyeshadow, hot pink blush streaks, red lipstick smeared around her lips – the works. Between mini bottles, Ulta rewards points, CVS double coupons, birthday gifts & polish swaps I have accumulated quite the collection for a newbie. Kinda embarassing but HEY! I promise I’m a polish bargain hunter and didn’t skip any meals in the name of  Nice is Nice or Turquoise & Caicos (okay maybe one, but that was because I spent my entire lunch break searching every store in a 5 mile radius for it. It was totally worth it).

My 2 fave brands are definitely Essie & OPI. The colors! The catchy names! The staying power!

  1. Oooo look at all those essie colors! I want to steal them! I just searched for and found turqs & caicos & almost bought sand trope! Best polishes in the world, they last for WEEKS!

  2. mom says:

THAT explains it!…I have notices those luscious nails…and they are quite becoming…..this has inspired me to dab a little paint on mine….

  3. Got any tips for getting the “fiji” to go on smooth and evenly? I’ve tried so many times to no avail.

    • Sarah says:

Fiji is kind of opaque so it will take alot of coats of paint on plain nails, or if you have a super light color as a base-like white then a few coats of the fiji ontop should do
