Extreme Makeover Home Edition

As Extreme Makeover: Home Edition builds airs its final episode & builds the final house – well 7 houses in 7 days…I recollect on the wonderful things they have done to change lives – both of the home owners, community and viewers. I had the privilege to be apart of a build and design team when they came to my part of the world in 2007. They inhabited our community for a week to build a home for a local solider & his family, including his autistic son. The house was very unique in that it reflected the local history of Saylor’s Creek & the Civil War era…complete with it’s own mini-Civil War collectors museum! The inside reminded me of Williamsburg with it’s Colonial style, simplicity, rich colors & brick oven. I joined the midnight shift on the very last night of the build and we worked into the wee hours of the morning finishing up last minute touches. In fact, after the rest of the volunteers cleared out, myself along with another girl were asked to stick around at to be assistants to one of the lead designers. Not as glamourous as it sounds, but I thought it was the best thing ever. I’ve been such a fan of the show & to actually be involved in it and to see the blood, sweat & tears so passionately put into not only building a home but helping family rebuild their life  was indescribable. So here are a few of my photos from my experience in 2007 – they may not be the best photos but I love them. And I’ll blame my hot mess look & backward shirt on lack sleep…
