I’ve witnessed many christenings and baptisms but it was a first to photograph one – Catholic & Italian style at that. The tradition and the schedule of the day is very much like a wedding day, and rightfully so. The beauty that comes from the tradition and the symbolism is heartwarming and sentimental. It’s an elegant affair where everyone gets ready for the day together and wears their best which is worthy of a red carpet event. The mother does not dress the child but ties the bow on her christening gown that has been worn by family before her, presentation of gifts, the ceremony followed by the reception aftewards which resembles a wedding reception complete with decadent food, cocktails, a DJ and dancing the night away. All in celebration of the joining of the child, the Church & God. I was so honored to be able to share this celebratory day with precious Serena & her adoring family. Here are a few “getting ready” images of the day.
