It’s always a pleasure to photograph a couple that you know and to be surrounded by familiar faces all day long. Especially when you have known them since you were knee high to a grasshopper (that’s southern for “forever ya’ll” ). I shot Jessica & Toby’s super fun engagement session along the backdrop of where they met and fell in love. I enjoy engagement shoots because not only are they relaxed and not on a strict time schedule, enabling us to hop around from location to location – but it gives the couple a chance to get accustomed to me and to the camera. It can be somewhat overwhelming and foreign for a camera to be everywhere you turn, documenting every single moment of your wedding day, (although Ashley & myself are super stealth and blend in with the background, it’s still unavoidable for couples to be conscious of the camera every now and then) so I prefer to get them comfortable and relaxed with me and in front of the camera prior to the day. It worked like a charm with these two, because Jessica & Toby opted for a first look (excellent choice!) and we photographers seemed to vanish in the emotion of the moment. During their portraits it was as if they were the only two in the entire world. Jessica & Toby were able to relax and enjoy each other, which produces real, natural, authentic moments. Meeting the wedding party is always a fantastic experience and after spending hours with them I feel like one of the team. The ladies were super cute, stylish (their accessories…swoon), photogenic & such an energetic bunch. I absorbed their energy, giving me a lil’ extra pep in my step! Given that I already knew the guys-a trio of brothers-I knew I was in for bouts of laughter and friendly picking amongst themselves and us, all in good fun.
Jessica & Toby’s story is a fave. Growing up in adjacent small towns and with mutual acquaintances, life moves them both to the City. Girl recognizes boy on a busy sidewalk during girls night out, invites him to tag along and they’ve been inseparable ever since. A blissful whirlwind less than 2 years later and they stand before friends & family as husband & wife. She moved all the way to the City and still ended up with a local boy-and vice versa. Life seems to bring us back together like that 🙂 Enjoy your Eastern Caribbean Cruise! (I am totally jealous btw)
