It is with a heavy heart that I go thru April 16th each & every year since 2007. 5 years later it still stings, one of those days I vividly remember where I was when I heard the news, eyes glued on the television for up to the minute information, calling friends to make sure they were safe & sound. The memory of the vigils, glowing candles, tears of grief spread chills through my entire body each time I think about it. Although I did not personally know the 32 people who lost their lives that day, my heart aches for their family, friends & the VT community. We Hokies are a close knit community & the outpouring of support from students, alumni, fans & rivals was and still is humbling and much appreciated. People put aside their difference & all rooted for Virginia Tech to pull through. Our biggest sports rivals donned the memorial ribbons on cars & clothing. People from around the world sent gifts of mourning, tokens of support. The tragedy has left it’s impact on the VT community, around the world and back. I will forever wear my maroon & orange with pride, appreciation, in memory.
We will prevail.
